Is your teen lazy, moody, or mean?
One of my all-time favorite shows is Ted Lasso.
In Season 3, Rebecca tells Ted, “Stop letting yesterday get in the way of today.”
This got me thinking of how often we label teens based on their past behavior.
For example, when you notice your daughter avoiding completing assignments, you might unintentionally label her a procrastinator.
Or I remember when my son played video games for hours, and I thought he was lazy.
Labeling your teen doesn’t leave room for the possibility of growth and change.
And frankly, kids often start identifying with the label, and it sticks.
You’re left frustrated, and your teen is stuck.
So stop replaying their behavior that happened yesterday on a loop in your mind.
Today is a fresh start.
They need you to see them in a different light.
They need you to see all that they can become.
And tell them that.
