Lesson #5 from living with an Olympian

1984 Olympic Games, USA Men’s Gymnastics Team

Lesson #5 from living with an Olympian:

The power of believing.

This is a picture of my brother with the 1984 Men’s Gymnastics Team.

They’re the only gymnastics team in the United States that has ever won the Olympic gold medal.

It took hard work.

Talent.

Determination.

Resilience.

And…belief.

The team was the last to compete in the final event: Men’s High Bar.

They were neck and neck with China for the gold medal.

He had created and mastered a high-risk trick.

Should he play it safe or go for the highest score possible?

He turned to his coach, who nodded and said, “Do it!”

Are you showing your kids you believe in them?

I know it’s hard when they don’t take responsibility, their grades plummet, or they engage in risky behaviors.

We feel compelled to fix the situation.

But that doesn’t work.

Flushing out what’s happening inside them and showing you believe in them helps them be the best version of themselves.
