Should you block social media apps on your teen’s phone?
One of my clients recently shared that a speaker, an author and psychologist, came to their kid’s high school and told the parents they should block all social media apps on their teen’s phone.
He said it will be “rough” the first few days, but they will adjust.
“Rough.”
More like a volcano erupting, right?!
With yelling, door slamming, and “I hate you.”
Followed by ignoring your demand and sneaking around to do it anyway.
Now your teen is lying AND shutting you out.
Do not do this.
This is fear-based parenting.
This will not create the closeness you want.
Nor will it protect them from the dangers spinning in your mind.
Social media apps are part of our world.
It’s our job to teach our kids how to use them responsibly.
While they are in the safety of our home.
Open communication, teaching self-restraint, and setting boundaries are vital to navigating these years with your teen.
I can help you do just that.
Don’t erode the fragile connection and trust.
