How to Enjoy Thanksgiving with Your Teen 🦃🧡

As anyone with teenagers knows, enjoying Thanksgiving doesn’t just happen.

Most teens would rather do anything than hang out with family.

You anticipate an argument and think, Why does this have to be so hard?

If you want a hassle-free holiday, approach your teen ahead of time when both of you are calm and clear-headed.

Compromise

When they want to spend time with friends, consider a compromise and say, “I want you to participate with the family on Thanksgiving, but I’m willing to discuss your plans for Friday.”

Troubleshoot

If you have judgmental relatives, try saying, “I know it feels awful when grandma is critical. Let’s brainstorm on how to handle that.”

Encourage Fun

When you want them to participate in holiday festivities, ask, " What fun activities can you do with everyone?” If you get the typical response, “I don’t know,” with an eye-roll, here are a few ideas: share funny YouTube videos, take their younger cousin to collect fall leaves, or create a gratitude game.

With this approach, you’ll enjoy a more peaceful holiday, creating memories, connecting, and having fun.

Wishing you a joyful Thanksgiving!
