How to Stop Your Teen from Lying

Nothing pushes a mom’s buttons more than when her teen lies.  

Often, you allow them to explain themselves, but the lies continue. 

The conversation between you implodes.

Your teen is defensive because you caught them in a lie.

You’re disappointed, angry, and worried they won’t survive the adult world by lying and blaming others.

Listen, there is nothing wrong with what you are thinking and feeling.

We all want our children to be moral and upstanding human beings.

But also understand that no teen wants to lie.

They just have a thought error—something they think that is not true.

They think you will be mad and disappointed and punish them if they tell you the truth.

So they decide it will be better for them if they lie.

The way to stop the lying is to correct this thought error.

Explain to them that it will always be better for them to tell you the truth.
